Sinfully Sweet

If ever there was a sinful dessert, I baked it today! (And there is definitely nothing more worthy of being baked right before the girls’ dentist appointments!) On a whim (obviously a somewhat planned whim since I had the necessary ingredients!), I made baklava. This morning after breakfast, I chopped walnuts… lots of walnuts. Then I decided to prepare it, so I went ahead and put it all together. Without completely thinking it through, I stuck it in the oven and made the sauce. I thought I had plenty of time, but it bakes for close to an hour. I hadn’t realized how late it had gotten, but fortunately the timer for the oven would be going off just as I needed to head out the door with M and L. I pulled it out, poured on the sauce, and we left. When we got home it was pretty much cooled and ready to go. I think N was just waiting for me to get home so he could try some. I gave him a little nibble. Then he got another little nibble. And another. N has awarded the baklava:

But that may just be because he was hungry! Anyways, knowing the temptation of having a pan full of sweets sitting on my kitchen counter, I immediately put most of it into a Tupperware… I’ll just freeze it and save it for July Bunco. At least the pieces in the Tupperware are sensibly sized for self-control! I don't know if I could say the same about those still in the pan... :-)
